Losing Weight in Better Ways

It’s April 1st and I just finished taking my Ochem exam about an hour and a half ago. I don’t necessarily pay importance to April Fools Day, but I wish I was joking when I tell you I knew nothing in that exam.

In other news, I’ve recently focused on my physical health more than I’ve done before. Many of you don’t know the 2010s era of mine, but I was overweight. Never to the “obese” point, but very chunky. I would always get timed out by the PACER test after the ‘number 10’. I would try to tell the lunch lady to give me the cheesiest slice of pizza every Wednesday. If I could avoid any type of physical workout that involved getting my back sweaty, trust me, I would.

I hit a really dark time around junior year of high school. I began working at a fast food place that summer and I ate there most of my working evenings. Burger after burger, fry after fry, shake after shake, I gained much weight. I couldn’t look worse.

I decided to take initiative of this summer of 2018. I stopped eating.. I would skip breakfast, eat chips for lunch, and come home after school just to lay in my bed, sleeping my school day away. I would eat my first meal at 8 pm and stay awake till 2 am just to wake up at 5:30 am and repeat my cycle.

Now, I don’t recommend anyone what I did. I was tormented by how I slowly started to not fit into my clothes anymore. It was a casual weight loss at first, nothing too major. It started to feel different after a few months. I felt amazing from the outside, but so broken from the inside. I would call myself “skinny” and wanted people to compliment me. I received the compliments I sought for. Soon, everyone around me noticed that I wasn’t the fat kid anymore. I felt like I had conquered my biggest insecurity.

As you may have guessed it, I was broken. No relationship with Jesus, focused too much on my friends, terrible sleeping habits, you name it. It wasn’t until last spring where I finally let go of old eating habits, no more calculated portions, and no more fear of eating more than twice a day. It felt like I had finally found my eating schedule.

This is how I look like now. No where near where I want to be. I did lose the man boobs though. I know my arms are too small for my body, my legs too “frog-like”, my abs too invisible. The thing is... I don’t care what you have to say about it. I can be skinny, fat, underweight, overweight. The only person who should care is me. I’m wise enough to care about my body. I know not to eat fast food every day anymore. I know to choose drinking water over anything and have a healthier diet including fruit, vegetables, and protein. Taking vitamins is just as importantas running 2-3 times a week. I joined a gym this month and I can’t wait to show you my progress. If you don’t want to help your body or cut out unhealthy habits, that’s on you. I’m encouraging you to take a look at your pantry and tell me what you need to throw away or buy more of. Start small: take out one bag of chips, no candy for a few days. My lifestyle isn’t the best, but we’re getting there. I love that I’m not getting the hang of my old “eras” anymore. I’m starting a new one. I recommend you do the same.

Take care, my natural praisers. Be comfortable in how you look. Who knows, maybe your gym buddy will become your best friend? 👀
